Confirmation

Confirmation is the completion of Christian initiation which begins with Holy Baptism. When we are confirmed we have the opportunity to confirm those promises which we made at our Holy Baptism (or which were made on our behalf) and God confirms our membership of his Church by sending his Holy Spirit into our hearts and sealing us with its presence.

Confirmation is normally offered to children in Year 5 after a course of preparation during Sunday morning Mass at St Saviour’s.

Confirmation is offered to adults at any time in their adult life following a course of preparation, shared with other adults.

The next service of Confirmation will be at St Mary-on-Paddington Green on Sunday 26th June 2011 at 11am. The Rt Revd John Moses, Dean of St Pauls, will preside.

First communion

Young people are eligible if they live or worship in the parish, and are in Year 3 or older for First Communion and have been prepared for the Sacrament by their full participation in the programme.

The programme will commence in January 2012. First Communion preparation will take place in School on Wednesday mornings. The programme will include weekly teaching sessions, homework and a rehearsal for the ceremonies. Parents are asked to attend the rehearsal.



First Communion will take place at S. Saviour, Warwick Avenue on Sunday 10th June, 2012 at 11.00 a.m. The rehearsal will take place on Saturday 9th June at 10.00 a.m. (everyone must attend).

Our initial meeting for parents and children will take place after Mass on Sunday 27th November 2011 at S. Saviour, Warwick Avenue at 12.30pm. Forms are available in church or from school before hand and should be completed and brought with you to the meeting, along with a copy of the candidates Baptism Certificate (don’t bring the original).

Child confirmation

Adult confirmation

Confirmation is offered to adults of any age. Full teaching will be given and those who have not yet been baptised (christened) can be prepared for baptism.

Classes will be held in groups at the Vicarage, 6 Park Place Villas, W2 on Sunday afternoons or, if this is not possible, individually at a time suitable to you. The classes take place once each week for approximately one hour.

About the confirmation service:

• The Bishop will encourage those to be confirmed and ask them to renew the vows which were made when they were baptized
• He will pray for them, that they will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit in their lives
• He will lay his hands on the head of each person with the words “Confirm, O Lord, your servant, with your Holy Spirit”
• He will anoint each person with the sacred Oil of Chrism with the words: “Be sealed with the Holy Spirit”
• He will hand a candle to each person to remind them of the continuing light of Christ in their lives.
